The Porsche Carrera GT is a car that came about due to a failed project from the Porsche Motorsport Division; an attempt to create a new Le Mans prototype to replace the infamous GT1. However, a change in FIA rules meant that the 5.5 litre V10 engine was no longer eligible to compete - So Porsche continued by making a race car suitable for the road and the Carrera GT was born.
The nature of the project on the CGT created a car where no expense was spared, a true dream for the engineering team. A carbon monocoque and sub frame (first used in a production vehicle), as well as carbon ceramic brakes and carbon clutch pay homage to the motorsport roots of the vehicle. However, the most important aspect of the CGT remains the incredible V10 engine, pushing out in excess of 600 bhp with a 0-60 time in the high 3 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph. The 5.5 liter is responsible for one of the most recognizable engine notes ever to be fitted to a Porsche, thanks to its high red line. Even with such motorsport heritage, the designers at Porsche understood that people would want to use the Carrera GT, meaning the inside is not completely alien to a Porsche driver. Special touches such as the wooden gear knob (paying homage to the legendary 917 Le Mans winner) and the individual number of the 1,270 cars produced in total, remind you that this car is something extraordinary. It is rare that cars like the Porsche Carrera GT make it to production, which makes this model all the more unique. Not only are these cars fantastic to own, drive and look at, but they also present a phenomenal investment opportunity, with an incredible future ahead of them.
This particular Porsche Carrera GT is #0787 which matches the Boeing 787 Dreamline Jet that is also made of carbon composite. This Fayence Yellow CGT is in Show Quality condition with all original pieces and a zero accident history. The current owner is the second owner and has had this car since December 2006 taking deliver with only 1,700 miles, now showing 8,200 miles. With approximately 1,270 built in the world between 2004 - 2006 and only 500 coming to the United States, vehicles in this low production run and condition are extremely rare.
To add to the uniqueness, this CGT was driven & signed by Porsche Factory Racing Driver Timo Bernhard in July of 2008. Bernhard, who in 2003-2004 worked at Porsche, was the driver who would take new Carrera GT owners on the track behind the Leipzig Plant and show them what a CGT could do. Now Bernhard is a top Porsche Factory driver with multiple LeMans championships and has autographed the inside of the hood after the drive to commemorate the experience.
